DURHAM, N.C. — The Durham Police Department is investigating a stabbing and a homicide that occurred Saturday night on Hopkins Street.

Police said they responded to a report of a stabbing at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday at the Caroco convenience store at the corner of Alston Avenue and Hopkins Street.

When police arrived, they found a 19-year-old male who had been stabbed. This victim was treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

As they were investigating the stabbing, police said, they found a male on the steps of an apartment building complex near the convenience store who had been shot to death.

Durham police have made a positive identification on the homicide victim, but his name will not be released at this time because his relatives have not been notified.

Authorities believe the stabbing and shooting are related, they said.
