ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — A Halifax County man faces felony charges of cruelty to animals.
Robert Richardson is accused of wrapping a wire around one of his dogs until the animal's flesh became exposed.
A veterinarian removed the wire from the dog, called Sweetie, who is being nursed back to health by a local rescue group.
Richardson is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
