FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — One person was injured Tuesday in an accident involving a tractor-trailer.

Cassandra Miller, 16, of Hope Mills, was driving on Butler Nursery Road when she ran a stop sign at the intersection of N.C. Highway 87 and School Road, the North Carolina Highway Patrol said.

Her car collided with a tractor-trailer traveling southbound on N.C. 87. The truck's driver, Exum Simmons, 49, of Willard, N.C., was not injured.

Miller was airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, but her condition was not available Tuesday evening.

The Highway Patrol said, however, that her injuries were very serious.

Authorities said they plan to charge Miller, a student at Grey's Creek High School for not wearing a seatbelt and for not stopping at a stop sign.
