State House Approves Tax Package

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — State lawmakers pushed through a tax package to fill a budget gap over the next two years.

House members passed a $562 million revenue bill that extends a half-cent sales tax hike.

It also keeps a higher tax rate for North Carolina's top income bracket. Both increases were supposed to expire this year.

The House also showed signs the budget battle could stretch well into the summer.

They passed a continuing resolution to allow government to keep operating if a budget is not approved by July 1.
