State Board Of Elections, RGA Square Off Over Ballantine Ad

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Patrick Ballantine lost his race for governor seven months ago, yet one of his television ads is still causing problems for the state.

The State Board of Elections, made up of three Democrats and two Republicans, voted unanimously that an ad was illegal and fined the Republican Governor's Association $200,000 for running it.

Both sides met Tuesday in front of a judge.

The RGA claimed the board's action was partisan politics, while the board ruled the ad was illegal because it was funded by union money.

The judge is not expected to make his decision until at least next Friday.
