DURHAM, N.C. — The family of a man who died after leaving a Durham rehabilitation center is suing the facility.

Timothy Snyder, 45, wandered away from Learning Services Corp. in February 2004 and froze to death in a nearby ravine. His body was found five days later. The center was fined $5,000.

State inspectors say Snyder needed a higher level of supervision since a recent stroke left him confused.

Snyder had tried to leave the building several times before.
