Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The man, who police believe killed his wife and then himself, made a call to 911.

Investigators released the 911 recording Wednesday of a caller, believed to be James Valentine, saying he killed his wife, Ronna Valentine, a Fort Bragg soldier who had just returned from Iraq.

CALLER:

"OK. I just killed my wife."

DISPATCHER:

"We have officers on the way to you. Someone has... What is your name?"

CALLER:

"Don't matter. When you get here, I'll be dead too."

The shootings happened at the Cambridge Arms apartments in Fayetteville.

Investigators said they are not sure what prompted the murder-suicide.
