Wilson Police Charge Man In Stabbing Death

WILSON, N.C. — Wilson police said they charged a man in connection with a death earlier this month.

On Monday, police charged James Earl Speight, age 39, in the stabbing death of Charles R. Barnes.

Officers found Barnes dead inside his apartment on Forest Hills Road just before 2 p.m. Friday, May 6. Police said the 54-year-old man had been beaten and possibly stabbed to death.

Speight was charged with one count of murder and one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Speight was placed in the Wilson County Jail without bond and is scheduled for a first appearance in Wilson County District Court on May 24.
