FAA Lending Moore Airport A Portable Air Traffic Control Tower

Posted Updated

MOORE COUNTY, N.C. — Moore County Airport is preparing for the oncoming crush from the U.S. Open golf tournament.

About 50 planes take off and land there on a typical day.

But the airport is bracing for up to 400 takeoffs and landings each day in June.

That estimate is based on the airport rush during the U.S. Open in 1999.

The FAA is lending the airport a portable air traffic control tower to handle the increase.
