DURHAM, N.C. — Three accused murderers are free -- all because of a failed promise by an investigator.
A Durham judge ruled that Dwight Brown confessed because an investigator said he wouldn't face charges.
The judge dropped charges against Brown and two other men who were charged in the death of an Oxford man and the shooting of a second man back in 1999.
Back in January, charges were dropped against an Orange County man accused of murder because a judge ruled Anthony Dalzell was tricked into a confession.
