Execution Scheduled For Friday For Cumberland Man

Earl Richmond
RALEIGH, N.C. — Time is running out for a death row inmate.

The state plans to execute Earl Richmond Jr. Friday morning. In 1991, he killed Helisa Hayes and her two children in Cumberland County.

Richmond was also convicted of the rape and murder of Lisa Nadeau in New Jersey. Terry Collins, Nadeau's sister, came to Raleigh to witness Richmond's pending execution.

"You know it'll never be over, never. Maybe, it'll be easier to deal with the fact that justice has been done and he can no longer hurt anyone else, never, never," she said.

Gov. Mike Easley held a clemency hearing for Richmond last week. He has yet to make a final decision.
