PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A Coast Guard crew recovered the body of a Cary man on Friday on the beach at Shackleford Banks, N.C.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, a passer-by called its command center at Group Fort Macon at about 11:15 a.m. to report a possible body and an overturned 22-foot boat with debris on the beach, including three fishing lines still in the water.
A rescue boat with members of the Atlantic Beach Fire Department on board responded, along with a Marine Corps helicopter from Cherry Point, N.C.
Once on the scene, a Marine Corps flight surgeon pronounced Randy Taylor, 44, of Cary, dead. He had gone fishing alone Thursday.
