The company, which will be operating a telephone call center for a major cellular phone company, said it wants to initially hire 100 managers and supervisors.
Those initial employees will eventually oversee hundreds more new employees who will answer calls for the cellular phone company.
For Butch Ewing, job hunting is a necessity.
"My position is being eliminated," said Ewing.
People applying for jobs Tuesday wanted to know who the employer was, and if the company was in Rocky Mount to stay.
Chris Hines, HR director for West Corporation, said the company is a well-known company that will be instantly recognizable.
"They really want to know if we are going to be here for a long time, and the answer is yes," he said. "We like it here."
The West Company plans to hire in waves of 200 positions, seven weeks apart, until the telephone call center is fully staffed.
The job fair continues on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. at 651 North Winstead Ave.
Starting employees will earn $8.50 an hour. Skilled employees could make up to 75 cents more an hour.
