Police Searching For Suspect Of Shooting Near St. Augustine's

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Raleigh Police Department is attempting to locate and arrest Jeremiah Dwayne Stirrup.

Stirrup is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and with possession of a firearm by a felon.

The charges stem from a shooting incident that occurred about 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the 1400 block of Pender Street, near the campus of Saint Augustine's, police said.

Police said two groups of men were having an argument when one person pulled out a gun and shot another in the back.

The victim of the shooting, teen-ager Wayne Lamont McCullers, was shot once in the buttocks.

He was transported to WakeMed for treatment.

Stirrup is described as being approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 130 pounds.
