DURHAM, N.C. — A janitor at Merrick-Moore Elementary School in Durham is accused of trying to rape a co-worker at school.
The woman told police that James Gomes grabbed her on Tuesday, put a knife to her throat and attempted to drag her into a restroom.
Officers said the woman fought back, grabbed the knife and cut Gomes in his face and leg. He is in the hospital recovering from his injuries.
Durham schools are on spring break. No students were at the school at the time.
