SANFORD, N.C. — Plumes of smoke and a dozen emergency vehicles surrounded a Sanford quarry Tuesday.
A representative told WRAL that workers at the Lemon Springs quarry in Lee County were repairing the processing plant when sparks from a blowtorch set a conveyor belt on fire.
Although the fire damaged property, no one was hurt.
The quarry is owned by Martin Marietta -- one of the country's largest producers of stone, sand and gravel.
