Local Reaction to Latest Hockey Talks

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — It appears the 2005 hockey season is off--still off.

Reports that the National Hockey League owners and players were nearing a deal to save the season proved to be too optimistic.

For more than six hours Saturday, both sides met to in an effort to save part of the season, but there was no agreement.

One man who has been keeping track of the latest talks is the voice of the Carolina Hurricanes. Chuck Kaiton is still not ready to give up completely on hockey's return.

This season may be finished but according to Kaiton, the negotiations are not.

"The game will be back. It will be bigger and stronger, and we just have to wait it out and make sure the right deal is there for Carolina Hurricanes," Kaiton said.
