Durham Police Shoot Armed Man

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — A man is recovering Thursday morning after Durham police shot him.

Investigators say 40-year-old Mark Gunter confronted police on Carpenter Fletcher Road with two guns. The man threatened to kill himself. He refused to put down the guns and even pointed one at an officer, police said.

Police say Cpl. E.M. Weaver then shot Gunter. Duke Hospital is not releasing Gunter's condition.

Weaver is on administrative leave with pay, which is standard procedure in an officer-involved shooting.
