More Charges Brought Against Cary Man

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — Authorities have brought more charges against a Cary man accused of taking sexually explicit pictures of a little girl.

Police arrested Daniel Hackney after he tried to develop the photos at a Target in Durham.

The pictures involve an 8-year-old girl.

Durham police filed 11 more sex charges against Hackney.

This brings the total number of child sex crime charges against Hackney to 53.

Hackney, 65, is in the Durham County Jail, facing charges in a child sex case that spans three Triangle communities.

Durham police arrested him last Wednesday night. He was originally charged with 15 counts of child sex crimes.

A Target employee at a Durham store told police Hackney was using a photo machine to develop sexually explicit photos of an 8-year-old girl.

Cary police say the alleged abuse took place inside Hackney's home on Barthel Drive. They describe his alleged victim as an "out of town" family friend.

Hackney is in jail on a $1 million bond.

He faces a long list of charges involving sexual exploitation of a minor. So Durham police, Cary police, and Apex police have all filed charges against Hackney.
