State School Board Attorney Calls Wilson Policy Illegal

Posted Updated

WILSON, N.C. — The attorney for the State Board of Education thinks a new policy in Wilson County is not legal.

Wilson public schools has decided to ban mid-year transfers from the Sallie B. Howard School for the Arts & Education.

The school system said the charter school annually pushed dozens of kids into Wilson schools who had academic and discipline problems.

Although the state attorney said the policy may be wrong, he said the State Department of Public Instruction and the state school board have no authority. He said the matter would have to be resolved in court.
