Durham Police Look For Answers In Murder Of Convenience Store Clerk

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police are investigating a homicide at a convenience store on Roxboro Road.

When police arrived at the Kangaroo gas station shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday, they found the clerk, Crayton Nelms, 45, of Timberlake, dead.

They said Nelms had been murdered, but the exact cause of death has not been determined at this time. Investigators believe robbery was the motive. Police have no suspects at this time.

Police are trying to find Nelms' truck, which was missing from the scene. It is described as a 2004 burgundy Ford F150 4x4 pickup truck with North Carolina license

. It has a silver toolbox on the back and may have magnetic signs with the words "C & N Windshield Repairs" on both sides of the truck.

Nelms had only been working at the convenience store a few weeks. He leaves behind two children.
