<b>CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C.</b> — The family of a man killed by a deputy dropped its case against Cumberland County. It turns out the county is immune from the lawsuit.

In September 2001, then-Deputy Marques Alexander shot Ronald Tew.

Alexander was arresting Tew for failure to appear in court on assault charges.

Tew's family believes Alexander used excessive force.

According to the Sampson County Sheriff's Office, a school resource officer discovered the body of a man inside a vehicle at Hobbton Middle School athletic field. Authorities believe the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
