Family Drops Lawsuit Against Cumberland County

Posted Updated

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — The family of a man killed by a deputy dropped its case against Cumberland County. It turns out the county is immune from the lawsuit.

In September 2001, then-Deputy Marques Alexander shot Ronald Tew.

Alexander was arresting Tew for failure to appear in court on assault charges.

Tew's family believes Alexander used excessive force.
