On Thursday, a cadaver dog alerted authorities to a pond near the Oak Bridge Store off Highway 55 East in Lenoir County. Crews from Beaufort County scanned the area with sonar and found that there were two objects underwater. Investigators marked the spots in the water and contacted dive teams.
However late Thursday afternoon, authorities were not able to locate the women in the pond and called off their search. There is no word as to what they found earlier.
Investigators said they searched the pond a few weeks ago when cadaver dogs picked up a scent on the other side of the pond.
Authorities used sonar equipment to search the Neuse River in Kinston Wednesday, but there were no signs of anything.
