Teenager Critically Injured In Durham Shooting

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police are looking for the person who shot and critically wounded a 13-year-old-girl early Wednesday.

Officers said the girl was shot near the intersection of West Main and Corcoran streets just after 1 a.m. Witnesses said a car slowed down and its passenger fired approximately eight shots toward a crowd of people standing near the corner.

The girl was transported to Duke Medical Center for a gunshot wound to her upper back. Police said the person they are looking for is in a red or burgundy Mitsubishi Eclipse.

The shooting also damaged a car that was parked on West Main Street. Investigators believe the shooting may have been in retaliation for an earlier argument inside the club at 118 West Main Street and they do not think that the 13-year-old girl was the intended victim.
