DURHAM, N.C. — Matthew West's family and the city of Durham reached a $1.7 million settlement.
West, 17, died last year when an officer ran through a flashing red light and hit a jeep West was riding in.
In a plea agreement, Officer Alfred Rodriguez paid a $100 fine. He has since resigned from the department.
Tuesday's settlement is the result of a wrongful death lawsuit the family filed against the city.
