DURHAM, N.C. — Time is running out for a Durham City Council member who was ordered to come up with unpaid alimony.
A judge held John Best in comtempt in November and threatened him with possible jail time if he did not come up with more than $5,000 in back payments.
The self-employed councilmember said tough economic times have made money tight.
Best said he plans to have as much cash as possible for Friday's hearing. He also hopes he can work out a payment plan with the judge.
