FOUR OAKS, N.C. — A man charged with killing a young mother and dumping her body along Interstate 40 pleaded not guilty on Tuesday.
Derrick Canaday is accused of beating Merritt Ennis and dumping her on I-40 in Sampson County.
Ennis was then hit by a vehicle, possibly Canaday's truck. She was reported missing back in May when she did not return from a concert at Alltel Pavilion.
Prosecutors also announced they will not seek the death penalty.
