VANCE COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities have called off their search for the day for a Vance County shooting suspect.
Investigators say Matthew Roberson shot Christopher Harris in the back early Wednesday morning near a Middlesburg elementary school.
Sheriff Thomas Breedlove said he believes Roberson was actually aiming for Harris' brother. Breedlove said the shooting stems from a dispute over a girlfriend.
Police said Roberson ran into the woods near Flemmingtown Road.
Harris underwent surgery at the hospital. His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening, but he is in critical condition.
