Prison Escapee Found In Roxboro

Alton Barbour
ROXBORO, N.C. — A prisoner who has been known to escape from authorities was captured in Person County Monday morning about an hour after getting free.

Alton Barbour, who is a prisoner at the Dan River Work Farm in Caswell County, escaped while on a trip to deliver recycling materials in Burlington, according to John McLarty, administrative officer for the Dan River Work Farm.

Barbour ran from an officer while they were at the recycling center in Burlington and fled through a nearby car wash.

A red pickup truck picked him up nearby.

A witness who saw the episode saw the driver and wrote down the license plate number. Authorities traced the license plate number back to an address in Roxboro. Barbour was soon found at that address.

It is Barbour's third escape from authorities.

(A previous version of this story incorrectly implied that Barbour escaped from the Dan River Work Farm facility.)
