DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police have charged a city bus driver with involuntary manslaughter in an accident that killed a pedestrian.
In September, 48-year-old Johnnie Chavis was making a turn when he hit and killed Katie McClary, who was crossing Broad Street.
McClary was taken to Duke University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later. No one on the bus was injured.
McClary was the junior varsity volleyball and basketball coach at Durham Academy.
A previous version of this story incorrectly stated the bus driver's name as being Johnnie Davis.
