RALEIGH, N.C. — There are two vacancies on the

Raleigh City Council

now that two members are headed to the state Senate.

Republican Neal Hunt picked up the N.C. Senate District 15 seat. Democrat Janet Cowell won the N.C. Senate District 16 seat.

Hunt and Cowell have each served on the council since 2001.

Mayor Charles Meekers said in a divided council, he would like to keep the balance the same. By law, remaining council members decide on new members.

Any interested Raleigh residents can write to the council.

Former Councilman Benson Kirkman and former interim Raleigh Police Chief John Knox have already said they are interested.
