Duke Authorities Investigate Campus Assault

DURHAM, N.C. — Duke University police are investigating campus assault.

The alleged assault happened early Tuesday morning near the Sarah P. Duke Gardens. Police said a man grabbed a female student from behind and demanded her wallet.

Police said the suspect punched the victim in the face and kicked her in the back. The woman was able to get away and call Duke Police from an emergency phone in the gardens.

Authorities said the student was not badly injured, and no weapon was used. The suspect was described as a light-skinned black man who was wearing a knitted hat, long-sleeved dark shirt and blue jeans.

On Sept. 8, another person was robbed at gunpoint on the same path near the gardens.
