RALEIGH, N.C. — The State Board of Investigation is looking into the death of a Hoke County woman.
Authorities say Deborah Scaggs died late Friday after apparently ingesting about 150 dosages of prescription medicine.
Scaggs had been arrested Thursday for the shooting death of her husband, James Scaggs, in 2000. She was taken to the Hoke County jail and held without bond. While in jail, she told detention officers that she felt ill.
Authorities took Scaggs to Moore Regional Hospital, where she later died.
