Alleged KKK Leader Faces Murder Charges

RALEIGH, N.C. — A suspected Ku Klux Klan leader accused of planning to blow up the Johnston County courthouse now faces murder charges.

Investigators believe Charles Barefoot Jr. helped kill Arthur Pettit also thought to have ties to the Klan. Officers found Pettit's body early last year.

A few weeks later, four people were arrested, including Barefoot's estranged wife.

Barefoot has been in federal custody on gun charges.
