The State Fair will take place Oct. 15 to Oct. 24. Officials say 54 rides have already been inspected and certified and 90 percent of the food vendors are in place.
Frank Arnold is one of the many food vendors getting ready for the fair. His booth has been open since Saturday. He has been catering to those who cannot wait until Friday's opening day to sample some of the fair's food.
"I eat all the time, so it's part of my passion some days," he said.
Officials say there will be more than 100 rides for the 10-day event -- the most the State Fair has ever had.
The State Fair will also have a new exhibit. Field of Dreams will teach children about North Carolina crops and introduce fairgoers of all ages to the business and culture of agriculture. It is sponsored by the N.C. Farm Bureau and the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
