Durham County Authorities Look For Leads After Two Bodies Found In Car

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — The Durham County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly shooting.

Two teenagers riding four-wheelers found a pair of bodies in a Volkswagon Passat off Sherron Road around 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Deputies have identified the victims as 25-year-old Odalis Ventura and 33-year-old Dionisio Yenes-Mejia. Authorities say two days ago, both men were in Georgia. They do not know why the men were in Durham County.

"We don't have many murders in the country that somebody does not know who killed them. Usually, you know who is mad with you and know why they did it," said Capt. Bill Wrenn, of the Durham County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said there were no bags or suitcases inside the car.

"We don't have any reason for that vehicle to be here other than they came here for the purpose of what happened," Wrenn said.

Authorities said the last murder in rural Durham County occurred two years ago.

Lois Cannady

, 89, was shot in her home during a robbery in 2002. Four teens were arrested in that case.
