Raleigh Police Make Third Arrest In Shooting Of Young Girl

RALEIGH, N.C. — A third person is in custody in connection with last week's shooting of a 7-year-old girl.

Raleigh police arrested Jamal Johnson, 16, Tuesday night.

Johnson is charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied property.

The charges stem from an incident on Sept. 28 on Boone Trail in which the girl was injured by a bullet.

Melissa Torres, 7, was in her bedroom shortly after 10 p.m. when a round fired from a vehicle entered the residence and struck her.

Her parents heard her scream and discovered she had been shot.

Torres was transported to WakeMed for treatment.

Bryan Lamont Payne was arrested on Sept. 29 on a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon, and Marcus Rashad Owens was arrested Tuesday and charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied property.
