Nortel To Cut 350 Jobs In RTP, 3,250 Globally

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Hundreds of local Nortel workers will soon be out of a job.

The company announced Thursday that 350 employees in Research Triangle Park will be laid off, or about 12 percent of the 3,000 local employees. Nortel is laying off 3,250 people worldwide.

Some employees will be let go by the end of the year; the rest will be laid off next June. Nortel already cut about 4,500 jobs in the triangle.
