Remnants Of Jeanne Damage Martin County Farm

Posted Updated

MARTIN COUNTY, N.C. — The storm also caused major damage near the Martin/Edgecombe County line.

Strong winds destroyed several barns and storage units filled with peanuts on the Edmondson farm. The winds even sucked part of the wall off a nearby house.

"It sounded like a freight train coming, but it weren't for a few seconds and it was all over," farm worker Johnny Silver said.

Farm workers have spent the last two days picking up pieces of wood and twisted metal. The owner estimates damage at close to $200,000.

Workers hope to clean up and rebuild soon so they can try to salvage the rest of the peanut season.
