Posted Updated

CLINTON, N.C. — An 8-month-old girl in Sampson County is dead after she was left alone in a bathtub, police said.

Clinton police said Keila Tonge left a 7-year-old in charge of her baby, Nakasha Alford, and a 1-year-old child. When the 1-year-old child wandered off, so did the 7-year-old.

When Tonge realized her daughter was alone, she went to check on her and found her floating in the tub, according to police. The baby died on the way to the hospital.

Tonge has not been charged.
