SANFORD, N.C. — A Sanford police officer is on paid leave pending the investigation of a fatal shooting.
The shooting happened Saturday at the Highridge Apartments.
Police say officer Ken Barger shot and killed a man who pointed a gun at him. Officers say Sean Pemberton was attempting to break into his estranged wife's home.
The Sanford Police Department has cleared Barger. However, the State Bureau of Investigation is conducting a routine separate investigation.
