RALEIGH, N.C. — Plans to build a new jail in Sampson County are one step closer to reality.
The Board of Commissioners approved the plans at its meeting Monday night. The county is paying for the facility with a $10 million loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The new facility will have 250 beds. The old one only has enough room for 63 detainees.
