FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A chemical spill forced emergency workers to evacuate a two-block area near Worth Street in Fayetteville Tuesday morning.
Hazardous materials officials say a train carrying hydrochloric acid had a leak.
Officials closed roads near the Cumberland County Detention Center and cleared out area businesses, including a day care.
It took crews less than an hour to contain the spill.
One person was transported to a local hospital. The person's injuries are not known.
Hydrochloric acid is a respiratory irritant and can be fatal.
