Pipe Bomb Found In Car After Hit-And-Run Accident

Posted Updated

APEX, N.C. — The search for a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run incident turned up something more Monday.

Authorities say a hit-and-run was reported at 12:34 p.m. at Waverly Place in Cary. The Apex Police Department later stopped the car and found six pipe bombs, each less than six inches long.

Authorities are questioning a 17-year-old who was driving the car at the time. They have not released his name.

The Raleigh Bomb Squad was called in to examine the explosive devices. Authorities covered the bombs in blankets, placed them in a bomb disposal unit and took them away to an undisclosed location.

A nearby day care center and dentist office was evacuated for more than two hours as a precaution.
