Raleigh Officers Injured In 2-Car Collision

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Two Raleigh police officers are recovering from injuries after their cruiser collided with another vehicle during a chase Friday not far from North Carolina State University's campus.

The crash happened just before 5 p.m. in the 1500 block of Crest Drive. Both officers were taken to WakeMed with non-life-threatening injuries, as was the other driver.

The officers were identified as L.A. Hartman and J.S. Marbrey.

According to police, the chase and crash began after officers on patrol in the area of Western Boulevard and Ashe Avenue saw a stolen car that they believed was in the possession of Antoine Chapelle James. James was wanted for assaulting his girlfriend and stealing her car July 20 at 3800 Lupton Circle.

Hartman and Marbrey were en route to assist the officers attempting to arrest James when they were involved in the two-car collision. Hartman was driving.

The driver -- and sole occupant -- of the other vehicle was Victor Manuel Texta Palacios. He was treated at WakeMed and released Friday night.

Marbrey was in good condition Friday night. Hartman's condition was not known.

Witnesses said the police vehicle's blue lights and siren were operating prior to the accident.

James reportedly has been taken into custody.
