GARNER, N.C. — Two people have been charged in connection with a deadly shooting in Garner Thursday night.

Garner Police charged Christopher Barnes, 33, of Garner, with the murder of 36-year-old Jeff Williams, also of Garner.

Investigators say witnesses observed two men traveling in a white car on Kentucky Drive Thursday night. The car stopped in the same area Williams was walking. A passenger inside the car allegedly began arguing with Williams. The same passenger then got out of the car, approached Williams on foot and shot him in the head at close range.

When officers arrived at the scene around 9:30 p.m., they found Williams lying near the road.

Williams was transported to WakeMed where he died just after 10 p.m.

A 16-year who drove the car is charged with aiding and abetting.

Police located a weapon, but had not determined a motive.
