RALEIGH, N.C. — State School Superintendent Mike Ward is leaving his job a little earlier than planned. On Monday, he
announced his resignation

Ward is moving to Mississippi, where his wife was just appointed a bishop in the United Methodist Church. His last day is Aug. 31.
Ward was not planning to run for re-election. Five people are vying for his job in Tuesday's primary.
