Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board Approves Nutrition Policy

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Chapel Hill/Carrboro School Board approved a strict nutrition policy Thursday night after adding three new components to the original proposal.

The policy will eliminate soft-drink machines, limit class celebrations with cake to one per month and eliminate food as a reward.

According to spokesperson Kim Hoke, the board also approved adding an extended policy to encourage community groups that use school facilities to follow the same policy. Secondly, concession stands will be encouraged to offer healthy options, and after-school programs and summer programs also will need follow the policy.
