Butner Public Safety Officer Charged With Indecent Liberties

Posted Updated

SPRING HOPE, N.C. — A law enforcement officer from Spring Hope was charged over the weekend with sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy.

Dwayne Bowden, 32, was arrested Friday night at the Nash County Sheriff's Office and charged with taking indecent liberties with a minor.

Bowden is an officer for Butner Public Safety, a state agency that provides law enforcement and firefighting service to the Butner area in Granville County, which includes federal, state and juvenile prisons and an N.C. National Guard training center.

Investigators said Bowden fondled a 14-year-old boy on a group camping trip in April. They said the boy just reported the incident last month.

Officials with Butner Public Safety said Bowden resigned last weekend.
