Three people, including two employees of the Granville County Department of Social Services, have been arrested in connection with  the theft of funds administered by the department.

DSS employee Evelyn Evans, 44, of Henderson, is charged with 43 felony counts of embezzlement. Co-worker Paula Taylor, 42, of Oxford, is charged with 60 counts of felony embezzlement.

Randall Chandler, 37, of Bullock, who doesn't work for the department, is charged with 44 counts of obtaining property by false pretense.

All three have been released on bond and are scheduled to be in court Jan. 3.

Granville County Attorney William Hopper issued a statement Friday, saying the arrests were "in connection with a scheme to embezzle funds administered by the Department of Social Services. The investigation of this matter is ongoing and further arrests are anticipated."

Hopper couldn't be reached Friday for further comment, so no other details in the case were available.

The Granville County Sheriff's Office is referring all questions to Hopper.
